For all the money invested into cybersecurity solutions, a new Osterman Research report has found companies are still being savaged by image-based and QR code phishing attacks – with 75.8% of organizations hit by such attacks in the last 12 months. And while over 70% of companies said their email security tools were “highly effective” at detecting image-based and QR code phishing attacks, just 5.5% of respondents said they were actually able to detect and block all such attacks over the past 12 months. With 60% expecting the number, sophistication, and evasiveness of image-based and QR code phishing attacks to worsen over the next year, you must ensure not only that email scanners are updated, but that users are regularly educated about how to spot and avoid the attacks. This includes providing practical examples of the latest phishing techniques, with some companies using generative AI platforms to create personalized phishing simulation tests.
