This psychological phenomenon, known as imposter syndrome, reflects a belief that you’re an inadequate and incompetent failure despite evidence that indicates you’re skilled and quite successful. you may be surprised to know there are different types of “imposters.” In 1982, Dr. Valerie Young identified five unique types: The Expert (Expects to know everything.) The Soloist (Feels they must work alone.) The Natural Genius (Thinks everything should be easy.) The Superman/Superwoman (Feels they should excel at everything.) The Perfectionist (Sets almost impossibly high standards.) It’s important to note that impostor syndrome goes beyond a mere lack of confidence. Everyone experiences bouts of self-doubt from time to time — especially when attempting something new. But because “impostors” have insanely high self-expectations, the self-doubt is chronic.
