As every actor, musician, or athlete knows practice leads to success. In today’s podcast, ADHD parenting coach, Siope Kinikini discusses the fifth element of the Teaching-Family Model, Role-playing. Role-playing allows a child to practice new behavior over and over again until they feel confident in their ability to handle any situation. This leads them to make better decisions and to take responsibility for their decisions. Because children are learning how to navigate the world, they need a lot of practice, especially when it comes to behavior. When we learn something new, new pathways in our brain are created. The pathways become stronger the more we repeat the action until they become second nature in our brains. Role-playing is most effective when it is modeled. This allows a child to know exactly what is expected of them without trying to “guess.” Watch the behavior lesson, Role-playing on SmarterParenting.com to learn what elements make Role-playing successful. Role-playing doesn’t have to be scary. Come learn why it’s such an important parenting tool to have.
