One of the most hurtful statements someone can say to an ADHD parent is, “Is it ADHD or bad parenting?” Besides being offensive and hurtful, it undermines the struggles of ADHD families and makes parents feel like they can’t do anything right. ADHD is not due to bad parenting. ADHD is not a “made-up diagnosis.” ADHD is a real disorder that is recognized by the American Psychological Association and comes with real symptoms and behavior. ADHD behavior has been studied since the late 1800s. ADHD children have symptoms that can make ADHD discipline more difficult.
