Brian Mayer talks to author and therapist Judy Herman, LPC about working through our past and our relationships. She takes a dive into her new book called "Beyond Messy Relationships." It is a memoir but it also has so many useful thoughts about relationships and these various dances we can get caught up in while we are in the thick of the messiness that you will find so much applicable to your own life. We hope you enjoy today’s message. For more information and additional resources please visit our website at http://www.theremarriedlife.com Today's Goodies Judy talks about the great amount of grief she experienced in her own life as the fuel behind the writing of the book. She describes 8 dances in the book and we pay particular attention to the dance of shame which can be so common post divorce. Shame unfortunately can often flow into a more permanent guilt, but Judy describes that there is a way out if we would only perservere through it. We talk about being a Christian and being set free, but all the while still being a human and struggling through this shame and guilt. Judy gets vulnerable when she talks about the struggles she and her current husband have had with his bipolar diagnosis. She really crystallizes the purpose of the book in that she wants us to see and own our realities, but to get help through and maybe most importantly have self compassion.
